‘The Mela’ held each year in the heart of London celebrates and shares the culture of London's multi racial communities. It is a feast of sights, sounds, smells and tastes featuring bazaars, folk troupes, traditional and contemporary British & Ethnic music and dance. Started life in 1992, it is the first of its kind to be held in London involving local organisations, community groups, schools, colleges, and various other educational institutions.
The Mela is a cross-cultural event for all ages aimed to promote cultural cohesion, integration, and enhance communication and interactions through involvement in various arts and community activities. All in all, it culminates into a spectacular event for all to enjoy in the height of the British summer organised by the Mela committee in association with Camden Council, Royal Parks, British Land and the British Museum & London Design House.

The Swadhinata Trust is a London based non-partisan secular Bengali group that works to promote Bengali history and heritage amongst young people. The Trust was created to work with young people on a voluntary basis. It has been operating for a number of years, offering seminars, workshops, exhibitions and educational literature to young Bengali people in schools, colleges, youth clubs and community centres. As part of its goal to promote secular Bengali culture for a wider national and international audience, the Swadhinata Trust’s long-term goal is to establish a centre whose main activity will be in the field of culture, research and education. |

The group aims to promote cultural talent in any form to give opportunities for people to use their talents and be accessible to all communities by touring and organising workshops and cultural events. We endeavour to bring our communities together and keep our cultural traditions alive. We have been able to stage Ephemeral Art and Music shows in the London Boroughs. |

Maharashtra Mandal London is one of the oldest Marathi organisations outside of India. It was founded in 1932. The mandal is a venue for grown-ups to gather, chat and discuss, participate in events and generally have a fun time. It is also a platform for new generations to see what being Indian, and in particular Maharashtrian is all about. The mandal gives them a platform to make new friends, learn about the culture and have a ready-made community that they can belong to at the ‘Maharashtra Bhavan’. |
