BISHAASH

Bishaash, a new drama series made by the BBC World Service Trust set in the UK and Bangladesh. It follows the exploits of Zara, a young British woman of Bangladeshi origin, who discovers she has inherited a family stake in a mysterious detective agency based in Dhaka.

Determined to find out more, Zara packs up her life in London and travels to Bangladesh where she meets tough young supernatural investigator Abir and is thrown headfirst into his world of mystery, magic and adventure.

There are 24 parts in all packed with visual effects, spectacular characters and a thrilling storyline. Largely in Bangla, the series includes functional English woven into the storyline with English subtitles throughout.

With episodes ranging from treasure hunts in Old Dhaka to an alien looking for a wife and romance on the streets of London the series is as much about family, tradition and love as the supernatural.

Each episode of Bishaash is followed by BBC Janala - Mojay Mojay Shekha (‘Learning with Fun’) - an entertaining educational game show which builds on the English used in the drama, providing viewers with a fun, accessible and free way to learn English.

The drama brings together a talented cast and crew from Bangladesh and Britain – featuring house hold names A.T.M. Shamsurzamman, Humayan Faridee and Giasuddin Selim as well as rising UK stars such as Md Shaidul Islam Molla (Babu), Shama Rahman, and Waris Islam.
