Zee Network Partners with the Mayor for Thames Festival
 

This year Zee Network is sponsoring The Mayor's Thames Festival which will transform the River Thames and its surrounding parks and open spaces between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge with an extensive programme of free, outdoor events over the weekend.

Indian Summer, the music stage will featuring Taz of Stereo Nation, Rafaqat Ali Khan of Pakistan and Bollywood Style Bollywood dancers, all courtesy of Zee.

Featuring a series of specially commissioned installations and events including large-scale projections on a spray screen on the River by Hexstatic ; an open-air screening of Judith Burrows's short film Pulse ; photographs by Steve Hollingshead projected onto the National Theatre flytower; Your Mum Visuals accompanied by music by Robert Miles & Jon Thorne ; and Sense 3d's ‘aural landscape', a giant sound installation outside Tate Modern at Bankside; a display about London's 400-mile network of rivers, tributaries and canals in the Blue Ribbon Tent.

Other highlights of the weekend include: The Great Trafalgar River Race , a boat race involving over 300 oared boats; performances by pyrotechnicians, The World Famous , the No Fit State Circus and Japanese dance troupe Sonda Eisa and four music stages. On Sunday the Festival will host two mass choirs of 500 children and 600 adults who will “Sing for Water” to raise money for charity WaterAid.River walkway events include a riverside bazaar and night market, art and sculpture workshops, a giant treasure hunt , a sandcastle competition , street theatre and storytelling sessions.

The Mayor's Thames Festival (Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 September), now in its 8 th year, transforms the River Thames and the surrounding parks and open spaces between Westminster Bridge and Tower Bridge with an extensive programme of free events. This year, there is a day of music and dance from the Indian sub-continent in the Gaiaspace Dome in Bernie Spain Gardens (by Oxo Tower Wharf) and an amazing sculpture created in Chandannagar (West Bengal) from 135,000 light bulbs, installed on the riverside walkway by Hungerford Bridge.

12 noon               

Chiranjib Chakraborty, one of the top ranking vocalists in Europe , b rings to life a wide range of tunes from pulsating ancient Dhrupad music, sublime songs of light classical music, today's fusion and Classical Ragas.

1.00pm               
ER Janardhan is a multi-award-winning, Chennai-based saxophonist who plays Carnatic, classical music accompanied by mridangam and violin. He has given well over a thousand concerts throughout India .
2pm & 3.40        

Threebee - this Bollywood and Bhangra beats dance company runs regular dance classes in London and also performs stage shows in festivals & events such as ‘Bollywood Masala' for the 2005 Rise Festival.

2.30pm              

Unnati Dasgupta & Spiritual Junction - r eached the finals in Glastonbury's 2005 Unsigned Artists Competition with her blend of Indian Classical, Hindi contemporary & Bengali folk styles. Spiritual Junction is Dhiren Raichura (guitar),  Hinal Pattni (keyboard) and Neel Gadhvi (tabla).

4.15pm               

Rafaqat Ali Khan Rafaqat Ali Khan is a powerful exponent of Sufi, classical and pop music, a mixture which is as unique as his vocal prowess. Rafaqat Ali Khan is coming all the way from Pakistan , courtesy Zee TV,  to grace this stage with his virtuoso performance.

5.30pm               

Bollywood Style - Rajesh Chouhan has been one of the leading Bollywood dancers in the last decade and has been the mainstay of the well renowned Ganesh Hegde troupe.

6.15pm              

Stereo Nation - has been described as a mixture of Punjabi folk, Hindi and English fused with western pop, infectious melodies and dance grooves - it is a sound that has achieved massive international success.

Bajra, the Peacock Boat was designed by Nandita Palchoudhuri and created in Chandannagar ( West Bengal ) by Sridhar Das. This spectacular illuminated float took 10 artisans over two months to manufacture and is made up of over 135,000 mini-light bulbs. It is installed on the south bank riverside walkway by Hungerford Bridge .
